Guide to Ostroia
Ostroia is a fantasy world: a Mortal Realm with arcane and divine magic, extraordinary monsters, and fantastical characters. Ostroia is alone in the universe, though there are other planes of existence as well - namely, the divine Hallows Above and Circles Below.
There are currently two campaigns set in Ostroia: Monday Night DnD and Missing in Montalimin. They are both set in around the same time period but different locations.
This is the map I am using, created by S Mitchell Maps! I did not commission it, but I did decide it was perfect for Ostroia. I am using several other maps from this creator as well, including Navuria City for Ostroia's largest city, Montalimin. :)
There are a wide variety of communities in Ostroia, with an even wider variety of cultures and genres. The economic system of Ostroia varies across cultures, spanning from a version of capitalism reminiscent of medieval feudalism to post-currency utopias that echo some science fiction franchises. Differences in technology, access to magic, and understanding of the gods make some communities feel isolated and separate from the world at large.
The information in this guide is dated to year 527 2E. The Second Era (2E) began with the creation of the Second People - the ancestries available for play in Daggerheart. Construction of the great temple of Ahion, called Flaming Fire, began in 17 2E. Montalimin, the largest city in Ostroia, was established enough to elect its first magistrate in 97 2E.
I use a lot of images from James RPG Art (like this one, called River Town) for setting the scene and providing a visual element for our imagination to play with!
All ancestries, communities, and classes are available for play by default in a campaign set in Ostroia (any exceptions will be clearly noted). However, there is some additional context that may be helpful when determining your character’s heritage and abilities.
- Giants were the First People. In 527 2E, they are considered entirely extinct. When the First People roamed Ostroia, they were made in the image of the gods by Eanos.
- Clanks are relatively new (and thus, uncommon) to the world of Ostroia, and are often regarded with surprise and wonder.
- Drakona are uncommon in Ostroia, and most people first associate the ancestry (for better or for worse) with a legendary hero of folklore.
